DISPLAYS

We know it is sometimes hard to decide what to check out and take home. We also know that if an item is being returned from use, it will most likely be used again soon by another borrower. So we pull items from among the day's returns and display them right at the front desk on our special Hot Picks end-cap.

The library also works to pull together special interest displays relating to special topics, seasons, and programs. We feature a variety of materials hoping to capture your interest - perhaps in a different area from which you usually select. These are generally featured on the end-caps of the center aisle.

A small glass case in the entry to the children's department often features artwork or collections of staff or community members. If you have something interesting you'd like to share, let us know.

We have a volunteer who prepares the topical display on the center aisle table and pulls library materials to suit the theme. !!!! THANK YOU !!!!

The small display case across from the front desk features a raffle sponsored by the Friends of the Library. One dollar wins a chance at the entire contents of the case. About every six weeks it is changed to a new display and a winner is drawn.

ARTWORK FEATURED IN THE LIBRARY

Along the north wall, we have hung four library-owned paintings.

First is a watercolor by popular Northwest artist Charles Mulvey depicting a lake scene. This was donated to the library in 1965 by the Soroptimist Club of Oregon City in memory of four of its members.

An oil painting of Willamette Falls, by an unknown artist of the American School, is second. A duplicate of this painting is on display in the Dallas, Texas, art museum. This painting was found rolled up in a metal tube in the basement of the Carnegie by the library's custodian in the 1960's!

In a beautiful gilt frame, the third piece is a scene of the top of Mount Hood (c.1950) rendered in oils by the famous Northwest artist, Percy Manser (b.1886 - d.1972)

Finally, we have a hand-tinted photograph of fishermen below the Falls donated in memory of former city manager Chris Strohmeyer by members of his family. These art pieces can be viewed in our photo gallery.
